Team Ownership Mapping
Lesson Video

Lesson Content
Team Ownership Mapping is the process of making current owners, future owners, support needs, and next steps visible across key business areas or recurring responsibilities.
It helps the founder see where they are still the hidden owner and what needs to shift so the business can move with less dependence.
When everyone helps but no one owns the outcome, the work eventually drifts back to the founder. Visible ownership helps the team carry more with clarity.
It is not a blame exercise.
It is not transferring everything today.
It is not assigning ownership without training, standards, decision rights, or support.
---
The founder must see where they are still the hidden owner before they can shift responsibility. Ownership cannot improve while it remains invisible.
The founder's role is to choose one area, name the next owner, identify support needed, and create a 30-day ownership shift.
---
Planning Activities: List key business areas, workflows, or recurring responsibilities.
Mark the current owner and where the founder is still hidden.
Name the future owner.
Identify training, standards, decision rights, or tools needed.
Choose one 30-day shift.
Execution Activities: Hold the handoff conversation.
Share the standard or ownership expectation.
Give the future owner one clear next step.
Review progress on a set rhythm.
Adjust support as ownership grows.
Brain Trust Guidance
Visible ownership creates founder freedom.
Your next step is not to transfer everything. Your next step is one area, one owner, one support need, and one clear next step.
Completion Standard
This lesson is complete when one ownership area has a named future owner, support need, handoff step, and review rhythm.

Reflection
1. When was the last time you explicitly documented who is currently responsible for each critical work area in your business, and how does that list compare to the owners you believe should ideally be in charge of those areas?
2. In your Ownership Map, where do you notice the greatest discrepancy between “Current owner” and “Should own” columns, and what specific support does the new owner require to transition successfully?
3. What potential resistance or challenges might arise from the current owner when you attempt to shift ownership of a chosen work area over the next 30 days, and how will you address these obstacles?
4. What measurable indicator will you use to determine whether the ownership shift in your selected area has been successful after 30 days, and what adjustments will you make if the indicator falls short?
