Lesson Content

The Why / What / How Teaching Model is a simple way to transfer context. Why explains the reason. What explains the standard. How explains the steps.

It gives the team enough context to perform with confidence without needing the founder to explain the same thing again and again.

Repeated questions often happen when the team has steps but not context, standards, or decision clarity. This model gives the team a simple way to remember and reuse guidance.

It is not a long training manual.

It is not a lecture.

It is not a one-time conversation that disappears after it is said.

---

The founder must translate instinct into language the team can use. Many founders carry the why, what, and how naturally, but the team needs it made visible.

The founder's role is to make knowledge easy to find, easy to repeat, and easy to use without constant explanation.

---

Planning Activities: Choose one task that creates repeated questions.

Write the why in one or two simple sentences.

Define what success looks like.

List the core steps.

Decide where the card will live so the team can find it again.

Execution Activities: Use the card in one teaching conversation.

Explain the reason, standard, and steps.

Ask what still feels unclear.

Ask the team member to say the next action back in their own words.

Update the card after the conversation if needed.

Brain Trust Guidance

Context creates confidence.

Your next step is to make one piece of knowledge easier for the team to repeat without you.

Completion Standard

This lesson is complete when the founder has created one card and used it in one teaching conversation.

Reflection

1. When was the last time you explicitly communicated the "Why" behind a critical task to your team, and what was the observable impact on their performance?

2. Where in your business does a clear "What" (standard of success) currently lack definition, and how might this ambiguity be hindering execution?

3. What specific process or routine in your company could benefit from a detailed "How" guide, and what steps would you need to take to create this guide for your team?

4. In a recent teaching conversation, how closely did your explanation align with the Why / What / How model, and what adjustments would improve future clarity for your team?
